Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Sabrina Wegner, and today I’m here to introduce myself as a therapist at Highlight Counseling.

Here at Highlight, we want to make sure we are answering your mental health questions. I know one of the first questions people ask is, “Who is this counselor?” So, let me tell you a little about myself.

My Roots in Midland, Texas

First and foremost, I’m a born-and-bred Midlander, and that is very important to me. I love the wide-open spaces here in the desert, and I’m thankful to spend this stage of my life as part of the Permian Basin community.

I left for my college years and came back as soon as I could. I graduated from Midland High and will always root for the Bulldawgs.

I’m also an animal lover and grew up with cats and dogs. My favorite color is orange, and one of my favorite things to do is find ways to serve in the community. That is how I spend much of my free time.

I like staying busy, but I also enjoy relaxing, watching TV, or playing phone games like Wordle.

Serving With the Midland Downtown Lions Club

I especially love serving with the Midland Downtown Lions Club. The club has a century-long legacy in Midland, and I’m honored to be part of its next chapter and to have served as its president.

The club is known for its Pancake Jamboree and founded the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, located right here in Midland. The center collects used eyeglasses and sends them on mission trips around the world.

There are volunteer opportunities for people of different abilities, from teenagers through adults. Yes, I’m inviting you to volunteer with us! You are welcome to reach out if you would like more information.

Why I Became a Counselor

I knew in seventh grade that I wanted to be a counselor. That early interest became the starting point for my education and career in counseling and marriage and family therapy.

My Education

I began my undergraduate studies at McMurry University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree.

I then earned my Master of Marriage and Family Therapy degree at Abilene Christian University before completing my Doctor of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

After growing up in Midland, it was quite an experience to spend those years surrounded by so many trees and so much water!

My Licenses and Supervision Work

I have been licensed in Louisiana as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 2019.

COVID delayed my Texas licensing until 2021, but I returned to Midland as soon as I could. I am also licensed as a supervisor for LMFTs in training in both Texas and Louisiana.

You can learn more about my background and approach on the Meet Sabrina page.

Coming Home and Starting Highlight Counseling

I returned to Midland in 2022 and worked with a nonprofit counseling center called Agape for two years, until the organization closed in 2024.

At that point, I had the opportunity to introduce Midland to Highlight Counseling.
